On Friday, 23 June 2017, in Cultural Centre Banski dvor in Banjaluka we organised specialised lecture on Plečnik’s Ljubljana.

In the year when we mark 60th anniversary of death of a great Slovenian architect we took the opportunity and presented the architect’s work to the population of Banjaluka. Ana Porok, advisor and curator of the Ljubljana museum Plečnik’s House, spoke about his work. The audience was welcomed by Ana Marjanović, and lecture of Ana Porok, speaking in Slovenian, was translated and supplemented by a member of the Association »Triglav« Jana Petković, who graduated from architecture at the faculty in Ljubljana.

Jože Plečnik was born in Ljubljana in 1872. His educational and creative paths took him first to Graz, then to Vienna and Prague, and finally to Ljubljana. He marked Vienna by his first projects, and Prague primarily by renovation of the Fortress of Prague. He gave Ljubljana the basics of architectural and urban planning identity, based on which the city continues to be built. Ljubljana is marked by two Plečnik’s axes, land and water axes. The so-called cultural path leads from architect’s house in the settlement of Ljubljana called Trnovo ending at the central city Congress Square. The water path represents development of Ljubljanica and Gradaščica river banks. The audience could also hear about other Ljubljana projects which are not located in the city centre and were invited to visit the capital of Slovenia.

We were happy to see a number of young students of architecture from the Architectural Faculty of Banjaluka. Such lectures will continue in the future.
