Students of supply teaching lessons of Slovenian continue improving their knowledge even during summer.
Secondary school students took part at Youth Summer School of Slovenian in Ljubljana in July and a course of Slovenian in Koper. Slovenian course in Koper »Halo, tukaj slovenski Mediteran« is organised by the Faculty of Humanities and this year it was organised for the twentieth time. Centre for Slovenian as Second/Foreign Language of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana has organised Youth Summer School of Slovenian since 2006 and it is intended for the young people between 13 and 17 years of age. Courses in Koper and Ljubljana last for fourteen days. In the morning students learn Slovenian while in the afternoon and evening they have a lot of activities organised.
Elementary school students took part at the Summer School of Slovenian in Tolmin and Camp of Slovenian Children Abroad in Fara. Summer school of Slovenian is organised by Slovenian Institute for Education and Centre of school and extracurricular activities while the sponsor is Ministry of the Republic of Slovenia for Education, Science and Sport. From 27 July until 10 August 58 children from 8-14 years of age coming from 15 countries study and have fun in CŠOD Soča. RS Institute for Education has organised Summer School of Slovenian for over twenty years and during that period there were more then 1300 young people as participants from different European countries where Slovenians and their descendants live. Camps organised by World Slovenian Congress have had a long tradition. This year’s camp is the seventeenth in a row. Young people of Slovenian origin who live outside Slovenia have gathered this time in CŠOD Fara on the River Kolpa. Summer School and Camp of Slovenian children consist of morning programme, intended for studying Slovenian and afternoon and evening programme during which they visit cultural and historical sights, get familiar with the location and organise creative, sport and recreational and other social activities.
During the interesting activities children and young people acquire knowledge but what is also important is that they have the opportunity to meet their peers who live in different countries sharing the same interest – learn the language of their ancestors and get to know Slovenia.
