This is the eight year in a row that the United Nations Association of Slovenia has published a competition on the occasion of the Human Rights’ Day. Three students of supply teaching lessons of Slovenian are among those who were awarded: Mihaela and Elena Lunić from Slatina and Emilija Šurlan from Novi Grad.
Through traditional celebration and art, literary and photo competition for students attending elementary and secondary schools on the occasion of Human Rights’ Day in the United Nations Association they try to warn about the importance of preservation and respect of human rights. Every year, they select one of the human rights and invite children and young people to express their opinion about it in the form of a drawing or an essay. The title of this year’s competition was “The right to water”.
There were over 50 schools that responded to the competition and over 350 works received. The expert commission evaluated the art works and presented award to, among others, the essay “Jana’s story” that was a joint work by Mihaela and Elena Lunić, as well as the work of Emilija Šurlan “We have the right to have a bath”. All three students attended the celebration and presentation of awards. They visited Ljubljana that was decorated in holiday fashion, while in the beautiful hall of the University of Ljubljana they were accompanied by Tatjana Jurkovič from the Ministry of Education and Sport.
