Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad has organised again this year gathering of compatriots from abroad and homeland. In history centre of Škofja Loka our members of the folklore group under the mentorship of Ms. Majda Nemanič made a performance on Saturday, 5 July 2014.

The event is intended to the preservation of Slovenian language, culture, establishing connections and strengthening affiliation of all compatriots, with the participation of members and associations of Slovenians from neighbouring countries, European countries and the farthest parts of the world. The event included the presentation of craftsmen from Loka and we also had the opportunity to watch and listen to folklore and music performances as well as plays. We tasted Slovenian dishes, while children tested themselves in climbing, and also could meet friends and make new friendships.

Students of Supply Teaching Lessons of Slovenian presented at the stand objects that had been made during creative workshops as well as the project “Best wishes, Slovenia”. Visitors were occupied by the quiz “What do you know about Slovenia?” and were given small gifts. Members of the folklore group showed what they had learned throughout the year. This was yet another good presentation of the youngest members of the Association of Slovenians “Triglav” at the Welcome Home event.

SLOVENIAN YOUTH OF BANJA LUKA DANCE SLOVENIAN (nastavak prethodnog)

In order to avoid fading of Slovenianship and Slovenian ideas as first generations of emigrants grow old, one should bring in young people. But how? The Association of Slovenians “Triglav” Banja Luka, in cooperation with Association for the Development of Voluntary Work Novo mesto came to an excellent idea. In January 2013, Slovenian youth in Banja Luka was offered a folklore workshop where through playing, dancing, singing and playing instruments they get familiar with Slovenian children tradition. In order to implement the idea they surely needed someone to assist them so they invited for cooperation Majda Nemanič who has been a leader of children group of Folklore Association Kres Novo mesto for many years.

Response was excellent as was the idea itself – workshops were actively attended by 26 boys and girls throughout the summer. They jointly prepared a programme for performance consisting of songs, children plays, teasing and children folk dances accompanied by accordion… The little group has already made performances in original costumes at three major events – in June in Slatina at the Slovenian Day, in July at the gathering of Slovenians in Ljubljana “Welcome Home 2013”, and in September at the national minorities’ review in Banja Luka.

In September, they gathered again and continued working, where one need to thank not only to parents but also to the leadership of the Association “Triglav”, offering such a significant encouragement to the young people. Folklore is not only about preserving national wealth (word, movement, dance, singing, playing) – there is a lot of mutual cooperation, socialising, developing a sense of belonging to a group, inciting self-consciousness, national identity and the importance of preserving national tradition of Slovenians. Children groups are very precious for associations: “We are proud of our heritage that we discover, nourish and transfer to the people of good will.”

Children folklore group of the Association “Triglav” presented itself by recently learned choreography and dance, under the mentorship of folklore dance teacher Majda Nemanič. We titled the programme ABRAHAMA GREDO consisting of plays, dances and songs.
