On 10 February 2009, Slovenians from Banja Luka and vicinity gathered on the premises of the National Minorities’ Club marking the Slovenian cultural holiday dedicated to a great Slovenian poet, Dr France Prešeren.
Beside members of our Association, the celebration of the Prešeren’s Day was attended by members of other national minorities and friends of the Association. We had a particular honour to welcome consul of the Republic of Slovenia in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Gregor Presker and representatives of the City Administration of Banja Luka. There was also media coverage of the event.
The programme consisted of the performance of the pupils of the Supply Teaching Lessons of the Slovenian language and the choir Davorin Jenko. The introduction about the life and work of Dr France Prešeren was followed by reciting of our children, thus marking the memory of the great poet. It was followed by a cheerful performance of choir Davorin Jenko. Melodious tones of folk songs, performed by Luka Đevenica, guitar, and Bojana Papić, piano, brought the event to the end. Pleasant socialising continued in a beautiful atmosphere with buffet and some drinks. We confirmed the old rule that we, the Slovenians, are the kind who can combine the pleasant with the useful.
