On Saturday, May 20, 2023, the Association celebrated World Bee Day.
The younger children, led by Lenka Debeljak Perušić and Oksana Lunić, in cooperation with the Slovenian teacher Barbara Goršič and a beekeeper from Slovenia, prepared a healthy jar for breakfast - filled it with various types of nuts and covered them with honey. Before the start of the workshop, they ate a traditional Slovenian breakfast - bread, butter, milk, apples and honey. They were also visited by a beekeeper from Slovenia, Rafko Cerovšek, who presented them with beekeeping equipment, introduced them to the importance of beekeeping and the benefits of honey, and they also made a wax candle and tasted the honey he brought from Slovenia. Rafko Cerovšek was in the company of his wife Jožica Cerovšek, who is also a beekeeper, and he offered the children Slovenian gingerbread, which they were happy to try. Children also had the opportunity to try different types of honey. The workshop took place in a good mood and pleasant atmosphere.
Rafko Cerovšek is a member of the Beekeeping Association of Slovenia and the Novo Mesto Beekeeping Society, and his wife Jožica Cerovšek is also engaged in beekeeping. He prepared a lecture on bees for older students of Slovenian language classes and members of the Association. Lenka Debeljak Perušić, Vice President of the Association, greeted those present on behalf of the "Triglav" Association. The beekeeper then presented World Bee Day and beekeeping equipment and emphasized how important bees are to humans. The participants tested their knowledge about bees with the help of a quiz and had a lot of fun while doing so. They also tasted different types of honey, made a wax candle and tried excellent gingerbread, and they also received a recipe to prepare it themselves.
The project was financially supported by the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad and the World, the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Srpska and the City of Banja Luka.
