On Sunday, October 1, 2023, a representative of the Association attended the 37th festive harvest of "Old Vine" in Maribor at the invitation of the municipality of Maribor.
The festive event was organized on Lent, in front of the "Old Vine" house, and the vine has been growing in that place for over 420 years representing the symbol and pride of the city of Maribor. On an exceptionally beautiful and warm day, in addition to the invited guests, the event was attended by a large number of residents and visitors of Maribor, who had the opportunity to hear the festive speakers, attend the promotion of the new Maribor wine queen for the period 2023-2025, watch a folklore performance and even taste the fruits of old vine.
In a spontaneous and relaxed atmosphere, members of the Malečni pickers harvested grapes, and the honor of picking the first bunch went to the choreographer and artistic director of the Ballet of the Slovenian National Theater in Maribor, Edvard Klug. Although this year was extremely difficult for the cultivation of vines, our friend Stane Kocutar, the keeper of the Old Vine, managed to produce healthy and tasty grapes, whose yield was halved compared to the previous year and amounted to 32 kilograms. It will be used to produce a protocol wine for its current master, the mayor of Maribor, Saša Arsenović. For us, this was an opportunity to meet with old friends of the Company and to arrange some new collaborations.
