On 2 March 2010, prior to meeting the Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia Mr. Borut Pahor, we attended a reception organised by members of the Slovenian Association “Ivan Cankar” Sarajevo.

Visit to the Union of Slovenian Association in BiH “Evropa zdaj” and meeting the leadership of the Union, Minister of the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad Boštjan Žekš, PhD, advisor from the same Office Mr. Selan and a representative of the Consulate of the Republic of Slovenia in BiH, Boštjan Širnik, were organized on the premises of the Association “Ivan Cankar”. Representatives of the Union informed the leading people from the Republic of Slovenia about the programme, plans for the future and possible difficulties.
Minister Žekš welcomed the establishment of the Union, gathering almost all Slovenians in BiH, which will also be funded by Slovenia. As good news, he emphasized the planned establishment of Euroured in Banja Luka, which will be preparing applications of the Slovenian minority in BiH for EU funded projects.
Union’s proposal: establishment of the Slovenian Department, a need for a Slovenian teacher in the territory of BiH, and the implementation of the Slovenian centre in Banja Luka. Minister Boštjan Žekš was very attentive and approving in listening to our proposals. Wishes are one thing, implementation something really difficult; however we do hope that our joint activities will give results.
