May 20 is World Bee Day. On Saturday, May 25, 2024, we celebrated it again at the Association of Slovenians Triglav Banja Luka.

We invited a local beekeeper to the Association, who introduced the students to the work of beekeepers, showed them the hive and explained how bees produce honey and what their significance is for human life. He emphasized the importance of bees for the environment and said, among other things, that for a kilogram of honey a bee has to visit as many as four million flowers and fly four times the distance around the world.

As part of the celebration of the World Bee Day, the Association also organized a Slovenian traditional breakfast, which is celebrated in Slovenia every third Friday in November - it is the central event of the Slovenian Food Day, and the purpose of the project is to remember that the food grown and prepared by people on our farms, in agri-food companies and cooperatives, fresher and tastier. The traditional Slovenian breakfast consists of bread, butter, honey, milk and an apple or other fresh or dried fruit without added sugar.
