The traditional Slovenian breakfast, originally called Honey Breakfast, was held in Slovenia for the fifteenth time on the third Friday in November this year, and was initiated by the Slovenian Beekeeping Association.

It was first held on November 18, 2011, with bread, butter, honey, milk and apples – all of local origin.

The objectives of the Traditional Slovenian Breakfast project are to educate, inform and raise awareness among schoolchildren and the general public about the importance of breakfast in terms of eating habits, the benefits of locally produced food of Slovenian origin, the importance of agricultural activities and beekeeping. The emphasis is also on raising the general awareness of young people about a healthy lifestyle, including daily exercise and sports activities.

The traditional Slovenian breakfast has spread beyond the borders of Slovenia, so that it is prepared every year by Slovenian communities around the world.

We also had a traditional Slovenian breakfast during additional Slovenian language classes in Banja Luka, on November 29, 2025. I brought most of the food from Slovenia and while we tasted a healthy meal, we talked about healthy eating, what the students like to eat, what they don't like, and they also wrote about what their breakfast is like.

Metoda Perger

During the Slovenian language class, we tried a traditional Slovenian breakfast. We ate honey, butter, bread and drank milk. I liked it because it gave me a better understanding of Slovenian culture. I also try to have breakfast at home every morning because I know it's important. Sometimes it doesn't work for me because I'm in a hurry to go to school or I don't have enough time. However, I try to maintain a healthy breakfast habit.

Breakfast, as a daily meal, is important for a healthy and energetic start to the day. For me, it is crucial because it recharges the batteries and brings positive energy to overcome everyday challenges. I prefer to eat oatmeal with fresh fruit or eggs with toast. I can't imagine skipping the most important meal of the day, which is the foundation for a productive and successful day.
Marija Budiša

Breakfast is the most important start of the day. They say an empty sack does not stand upright. This old proverb best describes the meaning of breakfast, which is considered the most important meal of the day. Breakfast gives us the energy we need to work, study and play, and at the same time affects our mood throughout the day. For most people, a "normal" breakfast is something that they can quickly prepare and eat. The traditional Slovenian breakfast consists of five specific foods that must be produced in Slovenia. These are: bread, butter, honey, milk, apples.
Bread, butter and honey represent a classic peasant breakfast, milk is a source of protein and calcium, and the apple symbolizes Slovenian fruit growing and health.
Stefan Kuprešak

The traditional Slovenian breakfast is very healthy. It usually contains bread, honey, milk, butter, tea and fruit. It is important that the foods are local and Slovenian. Honey is a very famous Slovenian product, because Slovenia has a long tradition of beekeeping. People often eat cheese, jam and fresh fruit. Breakfast gives us energy for the whole day and is therefore the most important meal of the day. That is why I eat it and I love it.
Katja Lunić

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that's why I eat it every day. I try to eat healthy and tasty. For example, I really like fruit smoothies. I can put whatever I want in them and it's always good in the end. I also love classic breakfast combinations, such as bread, butter or cereal. Everyone should have a good and hearty breakfast every day or at least often.
Milica Marjanović

I really like breakfast. I usually eat eggs, bread, meat, cereals, omelettes... Breakfast is very important to us, because that's how all the important vitamins enter our body. Everyone should eat breakfast.
Sofija Mihajlović

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It gives us energy for the whole day. The best breakfast is eggs and bread. I drink milk or water after breakfast. Some people like to eat fruit for breakfast, but I don't.
Nina Grbić

For breakfast I eat: honey, tea, milk, butter, bread, hot dogs, salami, eggs with onions, pizza. But I prefer eggs with onions.
Maja Grbić

I mostly eat sandwiches with cheese, ham, or sometimes I eat fried eggs. I drink water and tea. Sometimes I eat pancakes (when I'm at grandma's). If I don’t eat breakfast, I wouldn't have enough energy until lunch - I would have to stay in bed.
Iskra Aničić

For breakfast I eat: eggs, salami, pancakes, pie, sandwich, tea and bread. Breakfast is important and should not be skipped.
