“Greetings to this holiday” was the title of the 42nd Gathering of Slovenian Choirs held in Šentvid pri Stični on June 18-19, 2011.
Choir “Davorin Jenko” of the Association “Triglav” again took part at the traditional gathering of choirs held at the playground of Elementary School “Ferdo Vesel” on June 19, 2011. We again had rainy weather as the last year but that did not prevent around 3000 choir singers to take part at the event.
Chairman of the organisational board of the Gathering Jernej Lampret emphasized that it was the wish of organisers to ensure pleasant moments and good time to singers coming from Slovenia and abroad.

The entire programme of this year’s Gathering was dedicated to the homeland. Ethnologist Marija Makarovič, PhD, spoke about the unbreakable link between the people and the homeland. In her speech, she emphasised the importance of choir singing preserved in all parts of Slovenia. Singing is important not only because of the joy it brings along when the song is heard for the first time but also because of the applause of satisfied audience.
In this way, organizers sent a message to the cultural public that choir singing continued to live and that it was nourished by admirers of Slovenian song.
