The Association of Slovenians “Triglav”, Banja Luka, within the Supply Teaching Lessons of Slovenian (financially supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sport and Education Institute of the Republic of Slovenia), prepared a musical workshop on the occasion of the biggest Slovenian cultural holiday. The workshop was led by Mateja Gorjup and Samo Kutin, recognised creators of Slovenian folk songs.

On Friday and Saturday, 10 and 11 February, students received new information about Slovenian folk music and national instruments from all around the world. Folk music was briefly presented showing how strongly text and melody intertwine. We heard songs from Slovenian provinces and saw a number of national instruments: pot bas, singing comb, drumla, reed, čivink /whistle/, pearlymussel … Since Mateja and Samo travel a lot and research folk music throughout the world they also showed us different instruments. We saw Indian saranga and dotara, Hungarian hurdy gurdy, African calimbo, Arabic lute, Moroccan bendir and n'goni – »a harp« from Mali. We also saw different bells and percussion instruments which were tested by workshop attendees with pleasure so that it was rather loud on the premises of the Association for two days. Students were very active and they themselves made some whistles made of electric pipes, whistles of bamboo and clarinet of straw.
We learned some Slovenian folk songs and sang for visitors on Saturday. We sang the one from Prekmurje “Marko skače”, “Lepa Anka kolo vodi” from Bela Krajina, “Von či ste ke öde lipa mö” from Rezijana, “Tri race, tri pure, tri bele gosi” from Štajerska, all accompanied by a number of folk instruments.
Final concert by students of Supply Teaching Lessons of Slovenian was held in the Theatre “Jazavac” where the group “Horda grdih” with whose songs we travelled throughout the Balkans also made a performance.
