State Secretary of the Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad Mr. Matjaž Longar and senior adviser Mr. Aleš Selan paid a two-day visit to the Republic of Srpska in BiH and on 7 June 2012 met the members of the Association of Slovenians of the RS "Triglav" Banja Luka.
The newly-elected state secretary Mr. Longar met the members of our Association for the first time whereas we have known Mr. Selan for a long time. Together with the consul of the Consular Office of the Republic of Slovenia in Banja Luka Mr. Zupanc, president of our Association Mrs. Marija Grbić and several members of the Association the guests headed towards Slatina, the cradle of many Slovenian families.
The guests were there welcomed by Mr. Milan Perduv and Mr. Mladen Lunić. They are both descendants of Slovenian families who settled in the area of Slatina.
Mr. Perduv is a descendant of a known and advanced family of Adamič. As his ancestors did a lot for the improvement in the field of agriculture and cultural life he also continued the family tradition. He built up a textile company Slateks. Until the recent war, there were many people of Slatina and Banja Luka areas employed in the company. Following the war, he reorganised the company building into a modern geriatric centre, while Mr. Lunić together with his family and mother, whose parents are both Slovenians, focused on the preservation of ethnic sights. The estate of the Lunić family in their yard owns a true Slovenian hayrack, which attracts many visitors from thermal and rehabilitation centre Miroslav Zotović in Slatina. The estate of the Lunić family is also a good host to members of the Slovenian Association and guests from Slovenia.
Following the visit to Slatina, lunch in Slateks, and the visit and pleasant meeting with the Lunićs, our guests visited our Association. With the members of the Executive Board they spoke about the work of the Association, planning of future programmes and burning issues for Slovenians living outside their motherland.
Pupils of the Supply Teaching Lessons of Slovenian, together with their teacher Valentina Gradič, entertained the guests by performing a short programme.
The visit of the state delegation continued the next day in Prijedor where the Union of Slovenian Associations in BiH "Europe Now" prepared the 13th traditional gathering of the pupils of supply teaching lessons of Slovenian. There were 100 pupils from six Slovenian associations active in BiH who took part in the programme. Children prepared the programme well and we will let them write a few words about their impressions.
