43rd Gathering of Slovenian choirs took place in Šentvid pri Stični with over 110 choirs participating including over thousand singers from Slovenia, neighbouring states and the world. At the event on the eve of the gathering, on Saturday, 16 June 2012, Minister for Slovenians Abroad Mrs. Ljudmila Novak held an official speach.

In her speech Minister Ljudmila Novak said that the gathering of Slovenian choirs was such a big event that we could call it a national holiday. Choir singing, according to her, is undoubtedly the most visible form of culture in Slovenia as there are over 3000 choirs active in Slovenia with over 64,000 singers. Slovenians have taken the customs abroad and choir singing is now a necessary activity in cultural life of Slovenians in neighbouring countries and the world. »Choirs represent a kind of a defender of Slovenian culture. That is the reason we must extend gratitude to you and encourage you for the future.« Ljudmila Novak added.

On the Saturday concert of Slovenian choirs from other countries nine choirs made performance: from Hungary, Croatia, Italy, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.

Choir of the Association of Slovenians “Triglav” Banja Luka also made a performance at the concert. This performance of our choir was a jubilee one because this is the tenth time it took part at the event in Šentvid pri Stični. They performed well during the concert and sang well even after the concert when all the attendees socialized during refreshment prepared for them by fellow countrymen from Šentvid pri Stični. They showed that old firendships formed ten years ago got stronger as years go by and singing got better.
