Upon the invitation of RS Government Prime Minister and chairman of the RS Government Council for Slovenians Abroad Janez Janša a meeting of the RS Government Council for Slovenians Abroad was held on Tuesday, 20 November 2012 in Ljubljana. It was the first time that they convened in the new composition. As vice-president of the Council the session was attended by the Minister for Slovenians abroad Ljudmila Novak, who received the members after the session.

Members of the Council are representatives of Slovenian communities from Slovenia and abroad, who work on the preservation of “Slovenianhood” throughout the world, as well as ministers of the Slovenian Government or state secretaries, who as part of their work face the problems of Slovenians abroad.

Central part of the discussion was focused on the exchange of information on activities of Slovenian organisations abroad. Members of the Council thanked the Slovenian Government for an active and persistent support to their endeavours to preserve Slovenian culture and language among Slovenians living abroad. Particularly, they underlined the importance of the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad headed by the minister without portfolio, who is engaged in Slovenian Government’s contacts developed with Slovenian communities abroad.
