The celebration of the May Day organised by Cultural Association Briški grič from Števerjan pri Gorici was the reason why we visited this beautiful little town in Goriška Brda. On that occasion, on 4 May 2008, our mixed choir Davorin Jenko, child choir Mladi Jenkovci and instrumental group Trio Fantastico presented themselves by a one-hour concert.
Programme started with songs Po jezeru and Luna sije, performed by all participants. It was followed by Slovenija, odkod lepote tvoje performed by Lidija Paulin (soprano). Songs Pa se sliši, Kje so tiste stezice and Kroz ponoč nemu followed, performed by choirs Davorin Jenko and Mladi Jenkovci, with background instrumental music performed by Trio Fantastico. Our two young soloists – Nastja Milovanović (alt) and Lidija Paulin (soprano) sang Sve dok je tvoga blagog oka. They were followed by the performance of Aleksandra Bilanović, our young member who always enriches our events and performances of the choir. Young mezzo-soprano Aleksandra performed Sebed Krudelle and Mojčino pesem from the Kekec movie. It was followed by the performance of choir Davorin Jenko and Trio Fantastico of Vsi so prihajali and Dobro mi došel prijatelj. Numerous audience was again fascinated by Aleksandra Bilanović’s performance of Dan ljubezni and Za Slovenijo živim. The programme finished with Lipa and combination of jolly Slovenian folk songs performed by all participants. This was an extraordinary music event and surely one of the best performances of our choir.
Performance of our musicians was an opportunity for a two-day socialising and a stay on the Slovenian coast. Thereby, we had an opportunity to visit Gorica and Nova Gorica, Museum of Rural Culture Brincelj in Števerjan and tourist country estate Malovščevo in Vitovlje near Nova Gorica, where we saw wine cellars and the smoked ham production. The hosts, of course, made sure that we test the domestic products.
Surely, we will bear fine memories of two beautiful days on the coast and fantastic performance of our choirs. We established fair relationship with the hosts from the Association of Slovenian Societies in Italy and Culture Society Briški grič from Števerjan pri Gorici and we expect their visit to Banja Luka soon.
