On Friday, 28 June 2013, at 19.00hrs a lecture “Hay-rack – identity of Slovenian culture” was held on the premises of the National Minorities’ Club as part of the event ''Slovenian Day''.
The lecture was organised by the Association of Slovenians RS „Triglav“ Banja Luka and Slovenian Emigrants’ Association Ljubljana. People filled in the premises of the Club and had the opportunity to listen to the presentation by Mr. Borut Juvanec, professor at the University of Ljubljana, an expert in vernacular architecture. Hay-rack is a permanent, freestanding, vertical, open and roofed structure, mainly made of wood, for drying and storing fodder. However, this precise definition hides wisdom and experience of a Slovenian peasant. It is amazing how simple and functional it is while at the same time it has perfect architectural structure and improves the area where it si located. Hay-racks are exclusively to be found in Slovenian ethnic area and it is something that gives them special importance in preserving Slovenian culture and identity. The audience had the opportunity to hear and learn something new.
