Cultural Centre of Novi Sad

Association of Slovenians “Kredarica” from Novi Sad, on the occasion of organising II Days of Slovenian Culture, invited us to take part in this cultural event. Given the last year’s experience, diverse cultural programme, a number of choirs from different places, as well as the hospitable hosts, we gladly responded to the invitation.

II Days of Slovenian Culture took place in the Cultural Centre of Novi Sad. During three days, the audience of Novi Sad could enjoy a beautiful mixture of poetry, music, choir songs, art exhibitions and folklore dance. During the first evening there was a poetic recital of students of supply teaching lessons of Slovenian DS “Kredarica” entitled “Veš poet svoj dolg?” for which screenplay was written by Elza Ajduković who also directed it, with the assistance of mentor Rut Zlobec. Recital was accompanied by Slovenian and Italian music performed by instrumental-vocal ensemble DS “Kredarica” led by Milana Bireša. There was an opening of VI Biennale exhibition “Slovenia, how come you are so beautiful” where art works were exhibited by members of DS “Kredarica”: academic artist Igor Cvejanović, Marijana Gregl Bikar and MA in sculpture Danica Bićanić.

The second evening was dedicated to choir singing: mixed choir of Cultural Association “Slovenski dom” from Zagreb, conducted by Professor Ivica Ivanović, sang six Slovenian songs, “Lovački hor” from Medvode was led by conductor Professor Viktor Zadnik; the hosts also presented themselves by appropriate music programme with mixed choir DS “Kredarica”, led by conductor Dunja Huzjan and accompanied by piano performance by Jožef Ritter, and finally Men Vocal Group DS “Kredarica”.

Our choir “Davorin Jenko» performed at the third evening of this cultural event. Choir led by conductor Vanja Topić presented itself with five Slovenian folk songs and two old city songs. The audience was thrilled by Slovenian songs and strongly applauded when we performed old city songs “Jesenje lišće” and “Ja ljubim milu” accompanied by piano performance of our previous conductor Professor Aleksandar Jeremić. We are very grateful to our Aleksandar, not only because of piano performance but also because he joined us in singing Slovenian songs.

Instrumental-vocal ensemble DS “Kredarica” promoted its CD “Between mountain and valley”. Accompanied by sounds of jolly Slovenian songs, members of Ballet School Novi Sad, department for national dance, danced Waltz and Polka. Beautiful music and performance of folklore made visitors stand up and dance themselves.

Socialising of all participants continued along with music, cocktail and catering prepared by pleasant hosts. Extremely pleasant atmosphere was contributed by members of Association “Slovenski dom” from Zagreb with whom we danced and sang throughout the night as they played accordion and piano.

We bear beautiful impressions from Novi Sad because we had a successful performance, made new friends from Zagreb, socialised well, had excellent hosts and enjoyed the tour of Novi Sad. I also need to mention something that the entire choir agreed with – we also had a great guide, our Olga!!
