On 24 March 2017, the Association of Slovenians Triglav Banja Luka, in cooperation with Children’s Library Borik from Banja Luka, organised a workshop of the Slovenian language, for pupils of 3rd grade of Elementary School Vuk Stefanović Karadžić from Banja Luka.

Workshop took place on the premises of Children’s Library Borik, where the participants to the workshop were greeted by head of library, author Aleksandra Čvorović.

The workshop was facilitated by Slovenian teacher, author and librarian from Ljubljana Barbara Hanuš, who teaches Slovenian in associations of Slovenians in Banja Luka, Slatina, Prijedor and Teslić.

The lecture started by checking Latin and Cyrillic alphabet, identifying mutual similarities and differences. Gradually, through some graphics depicting some occurrences in nature and in classroom, the pupils learned some twenty Slovenian words and counting to ten. They were all very active in the workshop, quickly adopted Slovenian words, so that at the end of the lecture they managed to use offered letters to make words in Slovenian.

As a memory to the workshop and first contact with Slovenian they received sweets and bookmarks containing Slovenian words.
The objective of the workshop was to present the Slovenian language to the local community, in particular its young members, pupils of lower grades of elementary school, which is the language of some of their fellow citizens they did not have the chance to encounter thus far.

Cooperation with Children’s Library and author Aleksandra Čvorović has been rather constructive and well designed in the joint projects and will continue in the future.
