Every year, on 26 September we mark the European Day of Languages observing the language diversity of Europe. In the European Union there are 24 working languages, and in addition there are many others, whereas in each country there are many those speaking languages from other parts of Europe and world.
That day is the possibility to raise awareness about diversity of languages and encourage people of all ages to learn foreign languages. That knowledge offers individuals more possibilities in networking and job seeking, as well as expanding business to companies.
European Day of Languages is observed every year at the National and University Library in Banjaluka, and this year we marked it with pupils of supply teaching lessons at the Children Library Borik. Pupils and students of Slovenian presented poems by Slovenian authors Anja Štefan and Andrej Rozman Roza to pupils of 6th grade of Elementary School Branko Ćopić. Following the recitals, visitors divided into groups, where each group had »lessons« with pupils who have studied Slovenian for several years. They explained the meaning of poems, Slovenian alphabet, and also taught them some Slovenian words. Pleasant socialising was concluded by a poem Oče škrat by Andrej Adamek. Pupils treated themselves with some bonbons and traditional Slovenian delight – potica (nut roll).
Photographs from the workshop are available on FB page of Children Library Borik (https://www.facebook.com/djecijabiblioteka.borik/), while a TV team also visited the event.
