Students of supply teaching lessons of Slovenian from Slatina and Banja Luka responded to the literary and creative contest, which was published by the publishing house Miš within the framework of the "Reading under the Straw" festival.

The festival was first organized in 2011. Interesting programmes every year encourage young people to read. The competition, whose theme this year was poetry, was a motivation for students of the Slovenian language to read the works of Slovenian poets for drawing, painting and writing in detail.

A total of 145 works were submitted for the contest, of which 30 were works of art and 115 literary works. The papers came from 21 schools. They were evaluated by the panel, composed of Tilka Jamnik, Ivan Mitrevski and Stanka Zanoškar. Among the art works, the panel decided to reward only one - a painting of the Embodiment of the Star, which was painted by a pupil of the ninth grade from Slatina Elena Lunić along with the reading of the songs by Tone Pavček. The special award for literary work was shared by Aleksandra Špehar, students of the Grammar School of Banja Luka, for the Poem to Ivan Cankar.

The awards were presented on January 29th at the official opening of the youth literary festival "Reading under the Straw" at the Franc Bernik Cultural Centre in Domžale. The event was hosted by Boštjan Gorenc Pižama and his poetry was read by Saša Pavček, Peter Svetina and Feri Lainšček. The distance from Slovenia to the awarded students did not prevent their travelling to Domžale. Elena Lunić and Aleksandra Špehar, together with Aleksandra's father, and the President of the Association of Slovenians Triglav Marija Grbić and mentor Barbara Hanuš attended the event. They received numerous congratulations. Bravo, young creators!
