February is the month of culture, not only in Slovenia but also with the Slovenian national minority in BiH. Thus, on February 19, 2019, Association “Triglav”, in cooperation with the Banski dvor, organized the promotion of the bilingual book "Slovenian Ethnic Minority in Bosnia and Herzegovina" by Dušan Tomažič.

The author is a master of geography, professor of history, a journalist on TV Maribor, RTV Slovenia, over many years, but also a friend of the Association.

Collaboration on the publication of the bilingual book began in 2017 when Mr. Tomažič gave two lectures in our Association on the topic of Slovenian ethnic minority. He then presented the information he had collected for his master's thesis. He further expanded the matter, supplemented it with more recent data, and this is how this book was created. The data relate to the reasons and ways of immigration to BiH, life of Slovenian immigrants in BiH, as well as to how they came together to preserve the language and culture of Slovenians. Interesting facts were presented about the support that Slovenian associations have from Slovenia, about the supply teaching lessons of Slovenian in the associations and cultural events they organize, information from the census held in BiH and many others, and a discussion was held with the audience about the way Slovenians were accepted in BiH. We are sure that this book is a way to remain a written piece of evidence on the history of migration of Slovenians in BiH, as well as a basis for further research on this topic, but from another perspective.

The promotion of the book was opened by Mixed Choir “Davorin Jenko” of Association “Triglav”, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to BiH Mrs. Zorica Bukinac, Consul at the Consular Office of the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Banja Luka Marjan Ristič, representative of the Government Office for the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad Zvone Žigon, representatives of other Slovenian associations from BiH, as well as members of the Triglav Association and other interested parties. The publication and promotion of the book were supported by the Government Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad, the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republika Srpska, the City of Banja Luka, the BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees and the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs.
