On 23 April 2008, the National Minorities’ Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina was established in Sarajevo. The National Minorities’ Council is an advisory body, which will provide opinions, advice and proposals to the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH as regards any issue concerning the rights, position and interests of national minorities in BiH.
In the following 60 days, the Council will adopt the Book of Regulations which will govern the programme and work organisation. The Council currently consists of 10 members but given that there are 17 national minorities functioning in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 7 other minorities will elect their representatives to the Council. Council members are elected at the proposal of the Joint Commission of Human Rights, Right of Children, Youth, Emigration, Refugees, Asylum and Ethics of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH. In selecting the candidates, the Commission is obliged to consult national minorities’ associations or other non-governmental organisations for national minorities.
President of our Association, Mrs. Marija Grbić will represent Slovenians in the Council. We are particularly proud of the fact that Mrs. Marija Grbić has been elected as vice-president of the National Minorities’ Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The president is Nedžad Jusić, representative of Roma, and the second vice-president is Mrs. Vasilija Ibrahimagić from the Macedonian association.
