The 30th Summer School of Slovenian took place from 18-29 July 2011 in Ljubljana, with approximately 145 students from 35 countries (Argentina, Venezuela, Columbia, Canada, USA, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden, Japan, Montenegro, Serbia, BiH, Greece, Australia...). The school was also attended by Nikola Kunjadić and Ana Pristaš from the Association “Triglav”.

Students were divided into 6 groups, depending on their previous knowledge of Slovenian which was tested the first day. Based on the results, students were divided into groups from the first one, the beginners, to the sixth one, the advanced. Our two members were in the fourth and fifth group, respectively, which is commendable.

Classes were held every day, from 9.00-12.30 at the Nursing High School at Poljane. Students studied grammar, understanding, speaking, reading, listening. The school’s staff was always ready to help and answer almost all questions of students. After the classes, students did their homework.

Organisation of the course was exquisite. Excellent organisers and assistants ensured that we spent 15 unforgettable days. Every day, after school, there were some activities organised, e.g. introductory evening where students presented their countries, visits to the tower of Ljubljana, modern gallery, wine house with tasting some Slovenian wines. Students also watched the movie “Piran – Pirano” and rowed on Ljubljanica, which gave them the opportunity to see Ljubljana from another angle. They did some canoeing and kayaking and some even swam in Ljubljanica. They tested their knowledge about Slovenia in an interesting “quiz in a bar”. They had sports activities, e.g. volleyball competition which took place at the school’s gymnasium. At the end of the course, the final event took place where each group made a short sketch, thus showing how much Slovenian they had learned in the past 15 days.

Both members of the Association were thrilled with the course, saying that upon their return when someone asked them whether they had had good time, their answer would always be the same: „No, it was great and event more that that.“
