On the initiative of the Council of Europe from Strasbourg, the European Day of Languages has been celebrated every year on September 26 since 2001.
Across Europe, 700 million Europeans of all ages are encouraged to learn foreign languages in or out of school. The Council of Europe promotes multilingualism in the belief that linguistic diversity is an important tool for achieving better intercultural understanding and that it is at the same time a key component of our continent's rich cultural heritage.
The Association of Slovenians of the RS »Triglav« from Banja Luka presented itself with bilingual books in Slovenian and Serbian that it has published over the past 25 years of work. Visitors could learn about the work of the "Triglav" Association, which is published in our annual newsletter, as well as the "To smo mi" newsletter, which presents all the activities of the students of additional Slovenian language classes in Banja Luka and Slatina.
Most of the visitors were students of the first year of the Grammar School, School of Economics and Construction from Banja Luka. For some, Slovenian is interesting because it offers the possibility of studying in Slovenia, while some already attend Slovenian language classes at the "Triglav" Association.
Other national minorities in Banja Luka were also present today and presented the languages of their native countries in different ways.
Visitors to this cultural event and employees of the National and University Library of the Republika Srpska, which hosted us on their premises, had the opportunity to taste the popular Slovenian dessert, tarragon potica at our stand.
