On Saturday, 14 February, students of supply teaching lessons of Slovenian met with writer Cvetka Sokolov and illustrator Damijan Stepančič.
Cvetka Sokolov writes riddles, poems and stories and she also wrote a novel for youth. During the lessons students got familiar with her picture books and when they met her on the premises of the Association she said more about her work. Cvetka Sokolov is also a translator and she explained students what they needed to respect when translating. Students divided into groups and then translated from Slovenian to Serbian her riddles, while author assisted and warned them where they needed to be careful. Some rather goods translations were made.
Following the translation workshop an art one took place. Students of supply teaching lessons of Slovenian are familiar with picture book by Damijan Stepančič “Story about an anchor”. It is a picture book without a word and very popular among young readers. Illustrator shared with the students that he planned to make another wordless story. That one will also be in connection with the sea. He told the content to the students and they made pictures of the motive that sounded the most interesting to them. Illustrator advised them how to improve their pictures, how to stress some parts… Students were busy working in transferring their pictures from imagination to paper.
A pleasant morning was finished with the poem by Cvetka Sokolov about seasons. Author reminded students about known poems about spring, autumn, summer and winter and so they together sang some more songs. Meeting poets, writers and illustrators are a great motivation for children to read, write or draw something on their own. This morning on the premises of the Association was filled with joy, it was very interesting and creative.
