On Saturday, December 4, 2021, we held a Christmas and New Year's workshop with younger children. Both groups of younger children baked cookies and made a New Year’s card.

Before the workshop, students named kitchen utensils, food and read the recipe. Then we started making two types of cookies - we prepared a mass for Christmas and New Year's cookies and cinnamon squares. The children prepared the ingredients, measured them and kneaded the dough. With the help of a cookie cutter, they designed cookies. While creating, they listened to and sang winter songs Winter Winter White, Gray Kuchma. In the second part of the gathering, greeting cards were made. Teacher and member of the Association Vanja Perić introduced them to the process of making greeting cards. The children made a greeting card with precision and pleasure, and then wrote beautiful wishes in it. The three-hour workshop passed quickly, we tried the finished products and they were great. If someone wants to bake New Year's cookies on their own, we enclose a recipe. 

Cinnamon Square biscuits are the work of Sister Bernarda Gostečnik, heiress of Vendeline Ilc, who updated one of the most important Slovenian books of all times: The Great Slovenian Cookbook. Ingredients 

18 dag of flour, 9 dag of butter 

9 dag of sugar, 2 eggs (separately), a teaspoon of cinnamon 

coarse crystal sprinkling sugar 

Preparation 

1. From the flour sifted with cinnamon, butter, sugar and egg yolks, knead the dough. Roll it out half an inch thick and cut into squares. 

2. Place them on a greased or lined baking sheet, coat with whipped egg whites and sprinkle with coarse crystal sugar. 

3. Bake the cinnamon squares for 10-15 minutes at 180 degrees. 

Tip: You can sharpen the taste a bit by adding 2 teaspoons of ground ginger to the dough. When it comes to spices, make sure they are really fresh, otherwise the cookies will be neither sharp nor fragrant. 

 

Christmas and New Year cookies 

300 g of flour 

130 g of sugar

110 grams of ground walnuts 

100 g chopped black chocolate 

a pinch of cinnamon as desired 

2 eggs 

250 g butter 

The process of preparing Christmas and New Year cookies: 

In a bowl, whisk the eggs, add sugar, flour, ground walnuts, chopped chocolate and a pinch of cinnamon. Grate the butter with a knife. Prepare a dough rolling board, rolling pin and models. Take a piece of dough, roll it out on a floured surface and cut out the dough with any model.
